David Brown opens industrial gearbox service centre in South Africa

David Brown, a leading global gearing expert, today announces the opening of a new service centre in South Africa. Located in Sishen, Northern Cape, the facility will significantly extend David Brown’s reach across the Africa region, and makes
David Brown the only major gearbox supplier with repair capabilities in the Northern Cape.

The new 623m2 service centre will offer specialist mining and mineral plants service and repair facilities as well as providing rapid aftermarket services from inspections and upgrades, through to proactive maintenance and asset management across a number of industries.

Situated in the mining heart of Southern Africa, near the Sishen Kumba Iron Ore mine and neighboured by a further 22 mines in the local area, it can easily accommodate heavy vehicles and store large parts. Similar to other David Brown service centres, the Northern Cape facility will also have a 24-hour telephone and email service with a one hour breakdown response benchmark.

"We are delighted to be opening a new service centre in the Northern Cape. It will bring us closer to our customers in and around Africa and allow us to support their requirements for locally delivered industrial gearbox aftermarket services. The service centre will expand our aftermarket presence, which is a key part of our growth strategy, and will allow us to ensure that our customers have maximum gearbox usage with minimum downtime."
- Steve Watson, Managing Director of Global Aftermarket Services, David Brown

"David Brown has a clear growth strategy, developed around delivering added value to mining operators across South Africa, and indeed the rest of the world. The opening of our Northern Cape service centre brings us another step closer to our mining customers in this region and with our current and expanding footprint we are ideally placed to respond to the increased demand for aftermarket services as the mining sector continues to grow. This facility is a great example of our commitment to further develop our global network and provide comprehensive support services at a local level, which is especially important in industries such as mining, that can’t afford to wait."
